I got much of the theme finished tonight… I need to do some clean up… Drop me an e-mail and let me know if you like it or what it’s missing. I’m not settled yet on the post background color or the over all background color of the body container. I’m also probably going to completely re-work the background logo, just wanted something there other than solid color or a background from someone else.

To Do:

  1. Update the color of some of the graphics (light blue from original look).
  2. Make the search box work… I just put it there as a place holder.
  3. Remove the search from the sidebar.
  4. Fix the footer text (I added the dark bottom).
  5. Move the post voting (thumbs up/down) to the head of the post below “Posted By

I also want to find a comment voting plug-in so people can vote comments up and down.

I NEED feedback, especially on colors. If you’re on “the list”, sign up for an account and drop me an e-mail (while you’re giving feedback! heh) so I can start getting the groups set and you can start testing posts and looking at WordPress and the Plug-ins. After I get the main page/blog finished I’ll start moving on the forum piece.

The IE6 scare seems to be over… I don’t know what I did but the issues disappeared… the Polls looked f’d up still but it’s working… I’d suggest IE7 if you must use IE or better yet FireFox. ;)

All these site news update items will be killed when the site goes live.

I spent quite a bit of time tonight screwing with the menu of the future that I want… it’s still not completely right (as the demo) so it’s CSS of the theme and the Suckerfish plug-in not playing well together. It does represent the General layout of the site to come… There’s too much white around the edges but I wanted to make it the same as the header and body for now and I’ll change all 3 or get rid of the white all together, I’m just trying to decide that right now. I’m thinking of changing the white to a gray tone and running them all together kind of like the Wired Studios site where I looked at a theme. I like the header, body and menu layout with the gray background and white text area. The sidebar I’m not as fond of and will probably just round it with something to highlight the headers.

No updates to IE6 compatability tonight… I need to get a virtual machine up with IE6… my current one is a SP2 slipstream with IE7, so I need to dig out my original XP CD and load it up.

I found the theme I wanted to use and will continue to heavily modify it…. Just getting familiar with it and changing the header, backgrounds and colors a bit. I’ll start working on doing the side bar and body content this week. The pieces that I completed are rough draft and fairly minimal but place holders for the concept I’m going for.

I want to get rid of the gray, add the same rounded corners as the header and blend the color to the same header gradient or may keep it as a grayish gradient with the rounded corners so it’s not blue heavy. I may also change the background to even darker (closer to black) for contrast. I just did the logo in a few minutes (had it over a year ago when the site had started as another life).

As for other stuff, I added some categories to fill it out and some plug-ins: post rating, avatar posts, stats, users online, polls, video posts, live search and a few others that I’m playing with that I didn’t activate. I also need to get Gallery 2 and the forums bridged to the blog for single sign-on to all the modules… I’ve put Pligg as a back burner item for now since I’m thinking it may be content over-kill. I’ll replace it with some of the Digg API and add a “digg” to the posts. ;-)

Note: Apparently there are some major f’d up things with IE6 and the theme which is about right and how well IE6 did with standards. I’ll look into getting that worked on at some point but I wanted to make a quick note to use FireFox if you have IE6 installed to interact with the site. The entire layout is locked and squished using IE6.
